Project : W210 [ Engine & Electrical - Fuel Pump & Fuel Filter ]

[ Engine & Electrical - Fuel Pump & Fuel Filter ]

Green Arrow - Fuel Filter
Purple Arrow - Fuel Pump

Good evening readers! On Tuesday I managed to asked a mechanic friend to drop by and have the crank sensor replaced.  Sadly the problem still persist when we tried to start the car.  It cranked but didn't start or start-over.

My mechanic friend quickly pointed out to me that during our last conversation over the phone he mentioned to me it might not be the crank sensor problem but I insisted it was the crank sensor. So he did a quick test on the fuel pressure and found no pressure from the fuel pump.  Normally if you turn on the engine you will hear the fuel pump pumping.  That didn't happen so our next step is to replace the fuel pump and since the fuel filter was never replaced it is wise to have that replaced as well.

Thanks to online shopping I managed to grab those two at a decent prices. Prices shown above are inclusive of shipping but not Custom excise tax.  Now we just need to wait for the parts to arrive then we will continue with the project!

Project : W210 [ Exterior : Body - Front Facial ]

I have decided to do a quick run through about the current condition of the front body facial of my W210 while awaiting this coming Sunday for the mechanic to drop by to replace the crank sensor.

The first thing you can see from the first pic above is the front headlamps.  All four lamps have faded so bad it had turn cloudy and yellowish.  I have talked to a local detailer and they will charge about BND$30~$50.00 for polishing it back to its original glory.

Secondly, you can see three empty holes on the front bumper plate.  These are the parking sensors that went missing during a slight accident back in 2010.  The bumper was clipped near a corner and it was torn away from the body. I checked with Mercedes Benz Jati Transport and each sensor cost BND$300++!!  And we have three missings sensors!!!  Luckily a quick search online and you can get these sensor for around BND$30~50++ a piece!

Last but not least is the hood ornament.  It broke off when my maid carelessly pull off the star ornament while washing the car.  This one is another easy fix and probably cost about BND$40.00++ if purchase online.

Next post we will look at the rear facial and side facial profile of my W210.

Project : W210 [ Engine & Electrical - Crank Sensor ]

[ Engine & Electrical - Crank Sensor ]

Parts Cost : $125

Good evening readers, I tried to start the engine after cleaning the MAF from my previous post to check if the RPM is still having idling problem.  Instead I was greeted with engine cranking but no "start-over".  This is another problem not related to the MAF.  A quick check online and I was told this kind of sympthon is due to faulty crank angle sensor or crank sensor.  So this is a new problem not related to the MAF. Good news is it's a cheap to fix but a little harder to replace due to the awkward location of the crank sensor.

So the first thing to do is to find a replacement which I checked locally and online.  One can get a non-brand replacement for about $50~$80 online.  Our local Mercedes Benz will charge about genuine part for around $300++.  I also called up a popular spare part center, Sing Hiap Hin in Gadong Central and was told they have one in stock which will suit my car model.  The pictures here are the actual reaplacment part I just bought, it's Made in Germany by Hella!

Until the crank sensor is replaced I also have no idea whether our cleaned MAF is working properly or not.  Will update again when I send a mechanic over to my parent house to have the crank sensor replace.  I am thinking of doing this myself but it require a special socket.  We shall see how it goes next week.

New Car In Brunei - Ford Mustang (MY2015)

#CREDIT TO THE PHOTOGRAPHER FOR SHARING THE PICTURES

Well, today is a good day for new car buyer as I just received another set of photos from Muara Port.  This time we have the long awaited MY2015 Ford Mustang.  The last time I reported about this model was back in 2013 and I mentioned it will arrive late 2015 or early 2016.  Fast forward now to 3rd quarter of 2017 we finally have the old model Ford Mustang. LOL.  I am not kidding, America and Europe will be receiving their MY2018 Ford Mustang very soon and yet we just got our 2015 model.  Weird.

Regardless, the Mustang has finally landed in Brunei for the first time ever as a RHD model.  I am pretty sure I will pay a visit to the Ford showroom once this beauty is ready for viewing.  I can't even remember when is the last time I visited the Ford Showroom. LOL

This is the MY2018 Ford Mustang where the North American market will be receiving in Oct 2017.  LOL

New Car In Brunei - KIA Stinger

#CREDIT TO THE PHOTOGRAPHER FOR SHARING THESE PICTURES!

KIA Stinger has landed!!! I was expecting this to arrive in 2018 but OMG it is here!  I am not sure when the car will be launch but I am pretty sure this one will be a big seller.  Here are some information from a friend whose friend is the father of the uncle of the in-law of someone.

There are 3 specs available in Brunei and price will range from BND$48K~$75k++.  Price is to be confirm and I am not sure if these are even correct or not!  So take it for a grin of salt for now.
  • Spec 1 Turbo EX
  • Spec 2 Turbo GT Line
  • Spec 3 V6 Twin Turbo GT (365hp)
I am more interested in the V6 Twin Turbo GT as it has 365hp under the hood.  If the price is correct it will be a budget rocket sedan that can carry 5 pax in comfort! The 0-100km/hr for the V6 Twin Turbo is quoted at 5.1sec!  Not too bad

Project : W210 [ Engine & Electrical - MAF Sensor ]

[ Engine & Electrical - MAF Sensor ]

Parts Cost : $0
Labour Cost : $0

Good evening readers, my very first post for Project:W210!! It is now officially a go go. I went to my parent house to pick up the W210, I popped in the keyfob but the engine was having RPM idling problem when I started the car.  This is a common problem for many cars when the MAF sensor is dirty.  Normally people will replace the whole unit which cost around  BND$100+ for a third party brand or BND$300+ for a genuine Mercedes-Benz part. Another option is to remove the MAF and have it properly cleaned with either a MAF cleaner spray or brake cleaner.

Since this is an easy job I decided to tackle the job myself. Removing the MAF sensor was easy as it required to only open a few clips and screws connected between the air-box and air-intake of the engine. It took me less then 2 mins to remove it. I brought it over to a mechanic with my own brake cleaner to have it properly cleaned.  They didn't charge me a dime. Win-win!

Blocking the intake and airfilter box with unwanted rags to prevent any unnessary entries

Brake Cleaner found!

The rectangular part inside is the MAF sensor.  There are 2 very fragile fine filaments that needed to be clean which is why a spray is used here.

"A mass (air) flow sensor (MAF) is used to find out the mass flow rate of air entering a fuel-injected internal combustion engine. The air mass information is necessary for the engine control unit (ECU) to balance and deliver the correct fuel mass to the engine."

Did my car start?  Check out my next post!!!

Project : W210 - Plans & Categories

Good evening readers!  As you know I just announced from my last post that I just acquired a Mercedes Benz E240 (W210) and I am very excited to get this project start as soon as possible.  Here are some titles you will see frequently from my blog as I have already set out how this project car will be heading. Hopefully it will be a smooth sailing project and with my estimation I hope to have this car completed before I move into my new home which will be ready in mid 2018!

These are the five categories below:-

ENGINE & ELECTRICALS
- Although the car is still in good working conditions it is better to have everything thoroughly checked as it will be a daily driven car.  This category will involve inspecting and servicing any engine problems that I will encounter

EXTERIOR - BODY
- I am planning to have the body fully respray to a totally different color.  A new set bodykit is a must for this car and at the same time repairing any body parts that are broken or missing.  Will also check out any W210 aftermarket accessories such as LED head & tail lamps to spice up the car!

EXTERIOR - WHEELS & BRAKES
-  This section is a no brainer, will involve upgrading to bigger wheels and also any footwork problems.

INTERIOR
-  This will involve replacing all worn leathers and any interior electrical failure(hopefully there is non).  I am thinking of sending the whole interiors to KK, Malaysia to have it fully refurbish with a new leather interior!  This category will also repair any broken dash or door panels.  Again like the exterior, aftermarket accessories will be taken into consideration as well!

INTERIOR - IN CAR ENTERTAINMENT
-  This is my favorite section for all the cars that I owned.  I will be removing the stock player and replacing it with something more powerful.  Speakers will all be replaced and of course a sub-woofer will be added in for that extra boom! Its quite sad many modern car no longer has DIN hole for after market I.C.E.  Many car manufacturers had joined venture with after market company for standardising their ICE with their car models. E.g Dodge has Alpine and JEEP has the Harmon/Kardon.
